Vehicle inspections are another typical part of crash or accident investigation. These inspections will usually include measuring the amount of damage and damage profile of the vehicles. The investigation may also include inspection of each vehicle beyond the damage it has suffered due to the crash. This can include mechanical disassembly of components.

The mechanical components of the vehicles such as brakes, chassis, tires, suspension, headlights, taillights, etc. may be inspected and tested to determine if the condition or maintenance of these components was causative factor in the crash. A lamp’s filaments (headllamp or other) can be analyzed for hot shock as part of a comprehensive analysis to determine if the respective lamp was on at the time of the crash.
